Honours Programme Event 2011

Date range

Saudi Arabia

In the announcement of the Event we mentioned that this was going to be a special event and listening to all the reactions it has been a great and very special event!

The first part of the event took place from 23rd - 25th September with meetings of the World Scout Committee and for the partners and BP Fellows who arrived early we showed them Taif (in the mountains) and Al-Laith (at the Red Sea). At both places sub-camps of the 2nd International Peace Camp took place and it was great to meet so many Scouts and to learn so much about the local culture and nature. On 23rd September we attended the Scout Celebrations of the Saudi National Day and what a party that was!!

The second part of the event took place from 26th - 30th September at the King Abdullah Economic City (KAEC) where we were housed in a very nice villa resort directly at the Red Sea. They started building the City in 2007 and although only 4% of the surface structure is usable all the undergound infrastructure is already in place and in 20 years the foor print of the City will be as big as Washington DC!

The programme contained a day trip to Al-Laith, a visit to the King Abdullah University for Technology and Sience (co-educational) which was fantastic, the official launch of the Messengers of Peace Initiative, an official lunch at the KAEC including the Honours Programme Awards presentation, visit to the Old Town of Jeddah, for the ladies a hugely interesting visit to several women projects in the company of Her Majesty and HRH Princess Aadala and a fabulous Saudi Arabian Culture night.

The last part of the event took place from 30th September to 2nd October and brought 32 Honours Programme members to Al Ula (690km north of Jeddah), read more here.
