The Boy Scouts of America (BSA) announced that the organisation has filed for a form of bankruptcy in the United States called “Chapter 11”. This financial restructuring will enable the BSA to equitably compensate victims of abuse who have been harmed during their involvement in Scouting while still enabling the organisation to carry on delivering the mission of Scouting to young people. This video from BSA explains the situation.
Craig Turpie, Chairman, and Ahmad Alhedawi, Secretary General of the World Organisation of the Scout Movement (WOSM), explain Scouting and child safety here.
And additional information on the BSA restructuring can be found here.
We stand with our partners in WOSM and the BSA, in particular in relation to the care and respect for the victims of abuse. Scouting has worked hard, as underlined in these statements, to be a safe place for young people. You can also learn more about WOSM’s Global Standard, “Safe from Harm” here on the WOSM website.
